December’s Habdash Reveal and Christmas Wishes from Us!

December has been hectic but in a really good way! We prepared this month’s Habdash box ahead of schedule this month in order to get ahead of the last posting dates and in the hope that you will receive your boxes before Christmas.
The last two boxes have been full on festive in colour, reds, whites and silvers so this month I decided to go all out colourful with a New Year Celebration theme!

I found these cute little star beads that were the basis for the box, so everything had to match in with them!

The fabric is from the ‘Playing Pop’ range from Art Gallery and I adore it…I think I may make a version of this box for permanent sale on Not on the High Street!
The felt colours I used were Cerise, Mint, White, Baby Pink, Lilac, Dove, Lemon and Turquoise. Such fun colours! It couldn’t be a party box without some strung sequins and I added some bold colour with the Yellow Felt Ribbon and Pink Polkadot Ric Rac.

Add our usual spool of DMC thread and a sprinkling of confetti and Viola! We hope you enjoy this fun and playful box.
I will be taking a break from Sat 19th December until Sat 1st Jan to recharge and spend some all important quality time with my family. Our website will still be open but any orders placed will not be dispatched until Saturday 2nd January by first class post. Our SALE goes live on Monday 21st December and includes over 150 lines with 25% off! Whoop! Our biggest sale yet!
I'm also hoping to pull together an extra special, extra big facebook market night in the new year too so watch this space!
New Habdash Subscriptions are not included in our sale but all new sign ups between now and the 18th Jan will get a fab PomPomMaker Set, worth £6.95  for FREE!*
*while stocks last
Plus don’t forget you get one month free if you sign up for a six month subscription! The perfect way to blow off the January blues!...CRAFT SUPPLIES!
Next months box has a Sweetheart theme and we can’t wait to share it with you!
I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for all the amazing support this year! It’s been a fab one for Pocket and Pin, with quite a few milestones including launching Habdash, our new website and becoming a partner with Not on the High Street.
We can’t wait to take things even further in 2016 and hopefully make this a full time family business! We really couldn’t have done it without our lovely customers and friends and customers who have become friends!..Small business really does rock!!
I hope you’ll continue to support the little businesses who really and truly value each and every customer. You make our day!
We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
 See you in 2016!!

Habdash Reveal: The Winter Frost Box

Christmas is fast approaching and we've made sure our last two Habdash Subscription Boxes have had lots of beautiful supplies perfect for festive makes. This month we went white. Well, shades of..think neutral with bright white highlights. I think this box has made me feel more christmassy than our last box (if that's possible) and the cold weather that's hit this weekend is perfect timing for the theme!

Ok, so this months felt choices were White, Dove, Cream, Light Stone, Marl Grey and Marl Fawn. We doubled up on the White and Dove grey to give the right balance of cool tones.
The fabric is a beautiful sparkly 100% organic cotton from the Cloud9 'Aubade' range. Cloud9 fabrics have lovely luxurious quality to them. I think this would make a perfect Christmas table runner or napkins!

My first choice with my trims this month was for a bit of luxury, so i chose a lovely Velvet Ric Rac in a creamy colour and a pretty White Cotton Lace. I wrapped the lace around a cute Dolly Peg...perhaps it could be turned into a little Angel or Fairy decoration?!? Lastly i added a fab hit of sparkle with some Silver Lamé.

I found some pretty transparent flower buttons this month which look great with our Wooden Snowflakes. The Snowflakes are available now in our online shop. The flowers will be available very soon!

The final touch of sparkle was a mini bobbin of Silver Lamé DMC thread and the whole thing topped off with some downy soft white feathers....PERFECT!

We are getting SUPER busy with orders for one off Habdash Boxes and Gift subscriptions for Christmas. You can order either via our website or Not on the Highstreet
We are also very excited to have our first stockist! Selected Habdash Boxes are now available at La La Rookh in St Leonards on Sea, Sussex!

Happy Crafting!

Our MUST HAVE Christmas Craft Supplies!

Yep....that's it now, we've started our Christmas Crafts in the Pocket and Pin household! My eldest kiddos birthday is at the beginning of October but once that has passed i turn my mind well and truly towards Christmas!
Owning a craft shop has become a big perk (and a bit dangerous!) especially at this time of year, i have so much to tempt me and the project list is ever growing! I always keep a little of my favourite ribbons, trims and buttons for my own stash.
Here are my faves from our craft shop for those essential Christmas crafts....

I ALWAYS have Hessian ready and waiting at this time of year! A couple of years ago I made my boys personalised Christmas sacks, they are still going strong! Hessian is great for sacks and stockings, table decorations,'s so versatile and durable. You can buy it by the half metre in our shop, click here.

Felt is one of my favourite fabrics, also extremely versatile and great for little hands if the kiddos want to join in! Check out our Pinterest account for lots of ideas for felt projects. We have over forty colours in stock. We also put together pre-selected colour bundles. Our felt is 30% wool and confirms to EN71 toy safety standards.

Who doesn't love a festive ribbon?!? Whether you are choosing ribbons to adorn your festive makes or simply for that extra special gift wrap we have gone all out this year. It's definitely our biggest selection ever. Prices start from just 60p a metre for our printed ribbons and there are tons of cute and pretty prints to choose from. Whether you are a traditionalist or like something cute and modern, we have something for you. Here's a glimpse of some of my faves....

Our Christmas Bias binding is always popular. We have some of the old favourites from last year back plus a couple of newbies. Whether you are using it for some simple festive bunting  or finishing off some festive garments it's sure to add a very merry touch.

We love a cute button!...and you can't get cuter than little wooden StarsChristmas Trees and Snowflakes, all our Christmassy buttons have a distinctly Scandi feel this year, I LOVE them!

I can't get through the festive season without Baker's Twine! It's my go to trim for presents and hanging cards. We have some great colours for Christmas and new this year we have Metallic Gold and Silver which are available exclusively by the 100m roll in our Not on the High Street shop.

Gifts and Stocking Fillers

We are not all about the supplies! You can also find some fab little items to stuff those stockings or put under the tree to treat the crafty people in your life.
Our Polkadot Embroidery Scissors, Pin Wheels, Felt Bundles and Pom Pom Makers are ideal for stockings and our Habdash Boxes are a fab present to inspire any crafter. Why not give something a little different this year?

Home crafts definitely become more popular this time of year as the nights draw in and we need something to occupy us on those cosy autumn evenings. Here's to a busy couple of months of preparation and the most crafty time of year!

Habdash Reveal: The Christmas Box

This month has been a super busy one! Habdash is becoming more and more popular, which makes my task of getting all the boxes prepared, packed and out on time a much more time consuming task!
Each fat quarter and felt bundle is cut and tied by me and all the ribbons are cut to size and bobbins would be me too. It's such a joy to put the boxes together, it really doesn't feel like work.

October's box was our Christmas Box. I deliberated over the timing of this box for ages...September was far to soon, November seemed too close when you consider you need plenty of time to think about what you want to create and then actually make it. So October it was, maybe too soon for most aspects of christmassy fayre but when it comes to crafting, we need to be slightly ahead!

I love a traditional Christmas, so i decided to go full on Red for this box, with a hint of natural as a highlight. The felt shades I used were Cherry, Crimson, Red, Light Stone and Cream. All can be found in the Felt Section of our Craft Shop.
A few months ago I found some fab Snowflake print fabric which I fell I love with. I tied the rest of the box in around this Snowflake theme, including Snowflake Buttons and Snowflake Ribbon.
The Wooden Christmas Tree Buttons are always one of our Bestsellers at this time of year and the natural wood colour really complimented the rest of the box.

I also included some fabulous quality East of India Thin Stitch Ribbon and of course I couldn't have a festive box without a 'Merry Christmas' thrown in! This particular Merry Christmas Ribbon will be available to purchase from our shop very soon. The Chevron ribbon is currently a Habdash exclusive.
I finished off all the boxes with a little extra in the form of one of our Wooden Tags. These are available in either Bauble, Reindeer, Angel or Christmas Tree shapes. The are plain untreated ply wood and are perfect either as they are or great decorated. I shall be letting the kiddos loose on a few to hang on our tree!

If you want to subscribe, new subscriptions are now available. Next month's theme is Frosted White and will be dispatched on 20th November. It is set to be a beautiful collection of white on white tones, sparkle and luxury.

Gift subscriptions and one off boxes are also available if you are after the PERFECT Christmas gift for the crafty person in your life. Available via Not on the Highstreet or our website.
Gift subscriptions available three, six or twelve month durations. The first box can be delivered to you for you to put under your tree with the rest of the subscription commencing after Christmas.

Happy crafting!

Christmas Craft Hit List!

It's just over two months until the big day so we've put together a little Christmas Craft Hit List of our favorite crafty activities and inspiration!

Pinterest is an enormous and extremely valuable source for ideas, inspiration and tutorials for all kinds of crafting and DIY. This is definitely the time of year to start a project or a few, so here's our pick of the best.
Click the link below the pictures to view the Pin and follow to the source.

1. Felt Ornaments: Felt is one of may favourite materials, its so versatile, quick and easy to use. Why not whip up some cute tree's also a great material for crafting with the kiddos as its easy to stitch and cut and you don't have to worry about seams. No fuss. You can find a fab range of felt in our craft shop to get you started and our Felt Makes board on Pinterest is jam packed full of ideas, inspiration and links to tutorials.

2. Wreaths: The scope for wreaths nowadays is huge...and they are not just for Christmas! Here are a couple of my favourites from Pinterest. Pom Poms are such a fun way to cover a wreath! Super quick too, make sure you have some of these fab Pom Pom Makers in your craft kit!  I love to have a mix of wreaths around the house this time of year, i always go for fresh green for the front door at christmas but inside i have something on almost every door!

3. Advent Calendars: I love a homemade advent calendar. They don't need to be all about chocolate either. Why not mix it up a bit and include miniature toys, different flavour tea bags or even (for the over 18 of us) bottles of wine! I may even think up a Habdash style Advent Calendar next year! there's an idea!

4. Tags and Cards: I always make my own Christmas cards and quite often turn to Pinterest for inspiration. Last year i used my die cutter to cut Felt Stars which i glued onto Kraft card blanks. I am undecided on what to do this year. However for me, life is hectic, so it has to be simple and effective. I love these Snowflake cards embroidered with tapestry wool!
5. Paper Crafts: As i said before, I love simplicity! I always go back to basics when crafting with the kiddos. It doesn't get simpler than paper!

Now that's got you in the festive mood, be sure to check out our Christmas Craft Shop! Our Top 10 Christmas Craft Supplies will be on the blog next week!

Happy crafting!

September Habdash Reveal: The Scandi Forest Box

We are well and truly in the midst of Autumn crafting and supplies here at Pocket and Pin!
This month's Habdash box builds on the start of our Autumn colour palette from last months Woodland Box and adds a teeny hint of Christmas to start getting you in the mood.

I had dramas galore with getting this month's box ready. Firstly, after an influx of subscribers (don't get me wrong, that bit was no disaster! :-D) I didn't have enough of the fabric I had already chosen and bought for September's box. When I went to order more it was out of stock in the UK and Art gallery in the US were also out of stock! The turnaround for more of the same fabulous Stag print fabric was far too long so I decided on a coordinating fabric from the same 'Hello Bear' range.
Mini disaster averted and an added extra of a 'lucky dip' for our subscribers with the fabric in each box. A LOT of chocolate was consumed that day!

I plan the boxes 3 month's in advance so it's hard to make massive changes so close to dispatch. A complete design change is out of the question so I have to work around the other elements for that theme and try and come up with something that fits.

My next drama was kiddo sickness and then inevitably me too...another week lost in packing time!
BUT...we got there and another fabulous box was dispatched on time and I got to put my feet up on Monday night and celebrated with an 8.30pm bedtime!! Rock on!

Right on to this months lovely Scandi Forest Box...

As I mentioned previously, the fabric choice was a mixture of two equally lovely prints from the Art Gallery 'Hello Bear' range. I'm told by my supplier that they completely under-estimated the popularity of this super cute range of prints and they are frantically re-printing it!
I am also totally in love with this collection, so much so that this is the second month running I've featured prints from it.
This month I choose the bold Stag print and the more subtle Fir Tree print. Both these fabrics are 100% premium cotton, quilters weight. You get one fat quarter, which is approximately 45cm x 55 cm. They both tone in beautifully with the green and natural colour palette I chose. I will be uploading any leftover fabric to my website very soon, so keep an eye out!

The felt in this months box is my absolute favourite colour palette. I LOVE green. The colours I used were Marl Fawn, Sable, Emerald, Fawn, Cream, Light Stone, White and Moss. All of these can be bought individually on our website. Just click on the colour to take you to it.

This months trims add a good variety of texture. There is one metre of either Jute Braid or Ric Rac, another lucky dip! One metre of Beige Mini Pom Pom Braid and another rather lovely splash of Emerald Green with some Narrow Cotton Lace.

I've gone for Bells this month to add that little hint of festive charm, alongside some lovely Dark Wooden Heart Buttons. The bells are in stock on our website now and the Scandi Heart Buttons will be available very soon!

As ever, I have also included a little bobbin with some DMC thread to finish it off.

EVERYTHING in our boxes is re-usable and recyclable...I even use the empty boxes to store up my own craft supplies, they are the perfect size for stacking on shelves!

If you are a subscriber, don't forget to share your makes! I love to see everyone's creations and I shall be compiling a little blog post of my favourites soon, so come on....send me your pics!!

Next month, subscribers will receive our highly anticipated Christmas Box! This will be a full on celebration of the festive season and will arrive at the end of October giving you plenty of time to get those festive projects underway. You can sign up here
There will only be a limited number of new subscriptions this month as we draw nearer to our busy Christmas season so hurry if you don't want to miss out!

With the festive gifting season almost upon us don't forget you can buy one off Habdash boxes either via the Pocket and Pin website or Not on the High Street.
We also welcome gift subscriptions and can provide gift certificates for either three, six or twelve month Habdash Subscripions.

Happy crafting!

Kicking Off Autumn Crafting - Knitted Teddy Hats

I love this time of year, I find it the most inspiring by far. Even more so since I've had children as their excitement for Autumn and of course, Christmas activities, really is infectious!

We've kicked off our Autumn crafts this week with Teddy Hats!
My youngest came across one of the little hats from the Innocent Smoothie Bottles and decided to use it for his favorite teddy. Que all out war when my eldest clocked it and wanted one for his!....and then his whole teddy collection!

If you've not heard of the Innocent Big Knit Campaign, then it's worth checking it out. For the last couple of years devoted knitters up and down the country have been knitting miniature novelty hats to sit upon Innocent Smoothie bottles to raise money for Age UK. So far they have raised a over 1.7 million!
Once I've finished knitting for our Teddy army, I shall certainly be knitting up a few to send in.
You can find some fab patterns on their website that suit everyone from beginners to more experienced knitters. It's a fab cause and such fun, so get involved!

This is also a great little project for teaching kiddos to knit, it doesn't take long so holds their attention much better and they love dressing up their toys afterwards!

I adapted the basic pattern slightly for some of our larger teddies by increasing the amount of stiches to start and increasing the amount of rows.

Here is the pattern for a 20cm circumference teddy hat.

1. Using double knitting yarn and some 4mm needles, cast on 32 stitches.

2. K2 rows. Then, starting with a knit row, work in stocking stitch
(Knit 1 row, Purl 1 row, repeat) for 20 more rows.
3. For the next row, K2 together across all the stitches (16 stitches).
And for the row after that, P2 together to the end (8 stitches).
4. When you’ve finished, cut the yarn leaving about 25 cm.
Thread the cut end of the yarn through a sewing needle,
then run it through the loops and remove the knitting needle.
5. Tighten the yarn. turn the hat inside out  and sew it together at the side.
Once finished, turn it right-side out so that the seam you’ve
just sewn runs up the inside.

6. Sew on a Pom Pom!

You can find out all about making Pom Poms with our fantastic Pom Pom Makers here.

Happy Knitting!
